To: Jason Whittaker <JWhittaker@privatemedia.com.au>

As a young and hungry journalist filled with a desire to learn new things, I believe I am perfectly suited to the position of Crikey website editor. I consider myself a digital native, with a natural understanding of technology and the ability to use social media to connect with and build audiences.

I am experienced in a wide range of PC and Apple products, including Office, Photoshop, InDesign, Dreamweaver, GoLive, Final Cut Pro and M.Y.O.B. I am also very familiar with HTML, Twitter, Facebook, SEO, and WordPress, having built and marketed a number of websites and blogs in the past.

I also consider myself a talented and experienced writer and sub-editor who is always a productive contributor, whether working as part of a team or individually. I possess the initiative to form, pitch and act on concepts for innovative and interesting content and have had experience attracting submissions for content.

I have always supported Crikey’s belief in itself as an independent voice in the media. As the world becomes more complex, journalists are required to digest an extraordinary amount of information in a short space of time. It takes a certain kind of person to want to be a journalist in these times, I believe I am that kind of person.

I have a lot to offer Crikey and will do my best to help the website reach its full potential, while still upholding the publication’s belief in independent media.

What do you think? Is Tom a chance for this job?

  1. I love it Tom. I think Crikey should give you the job! But, I am your Mum, so I am more than a little biased..

  2. I … I .. I … what’s is in or the benefit for Crikey?

  3. Hah, good luck with it, Tom. Other essential skills a Crikey web editor must possess:

    - Ability to down at least a litre of straight black coffee a day
    - Ability to cut down colleagues with little more than a raised eyebrow and a menacing glare that says, “Talk to me and die”
    - Ability to simultaneously digest SKY news, 774, a planet’s worth of newspapers, multiple Twitter feeds and icanhascheeseburger whilst listening to your ipod
    - Judo-chop action and kung-fu grip

I have taught you well, young padawan.
